The million-dollar robbery took place on Wednesday afternoon near the Ramalde district of Porto, as the 53-year-old businessman was preparing to invest 175,000 euros in cryptocurrencies.
Armed with a bag containing 175,000 euros, the man, who had asked friends for advice on this type of investment, contacted the supposed expert and arranged a meeting in a café near the Boavista roundabout. It was there that the two agreed on the terms of the deal, which they would formalize at the victim’s office in Ramalde. However, the investor was ambushed. Once nearby, the virtual currency specialist, who was driving, stopped, and at the same time, another car stopped nearby. Two men got out of the car and, armed with knives, forced the victim to hand over the money. They fled with the money. A report was received by the PSP, which is trying to identify those responsible for the robbery. Since 2022, the PD has opened three thousand crypto-active requests. There are cases of fraud worth millions of euros.
