On August 11, the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples was celebrated in the national village of Tavaivaam, the Chukotka news agency reports.
In the open field, creative groups “Ergyron”, “Atasikun”, “Rodnik”, “Beringia” and “Urvi͆” performed Chukchi, Eskimo, Even and Itelmen songs and dances.
An exhibition and sale of folk crafts was held on the square in front of the Palace of Culture. On the shore of the bay there was a gastronomic area where everyone could try red fish soup, venison, aromatic tea with tundra herbs and other national dishes.
The festival guests competed in national sports: lasso throwing, pole vaulting, triple jump and ribbon head throwing.
Let us remember that the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples was established in accordance with resolution 49/214, dated December 23, 1994, adopted by the UN General Assembly (GA).
