Czech ambassador to Poland Jakub Duerr has died suddenly at the age of 47 in Warsaw, the Czech Foreign Ministry said on Twitter on February 16.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs regrets to announce that the Czech Ambassador to Poland, Jakub Dürr, passed away suddenly today.”the agency said on social media. Foreign Ministry expressed “Sincere condolences to his family and loved ones”.
Note that Duerr has been on sick leave since November 2022 at home, but in 2023 he returned to Warsaw again for work. The agency did not name the reasons for the diplomat’s death. Many Polish and Czech politicians, including Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, have already expressed condolences over the ambassador’s death.
Jakub Duerr was born in 1976. From 2008 to 2009, Dürr was Deputy Minister of Education of the Czech Republic, and from 2016 to 2018 he was Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
In the period from 2018 to 2020, the diplomat served as the Permanent Representative of the Czech Republic to the European Union, according to the Foreign Ministry website. And in December 2021, he was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic in Poland.
