A court in Manica province in central Mozambique sentenced a man to 30 years in prison on Monday for cutting off and selling the genitals of a motorbike taxi driver.
“For the crime of genital mutilation and the crime of detention, storage, transportation and commercialization of human organs, as well as the crime under aggravating circumstances, I sentence him, in addition, to one term of imprisonment for a term of 30 years,” Louis Massing said, reading the sentence.
The crime occurred on January 11, 2020, after the convicted man approached the victim with a request to use the services of a motorcycle taxi, claiming that he needed to transport a sick family member. At the house, the victim was attacked, he lost consciousness, and then his genitals were cut off.
The man was also ordered to pay the victim 2.5 million metice (36,000 euros) in compensation “for the material and non-material damage caused,” the judge ruled, adding that the organs were sold in neighboring South Africa. Mozambique.
