Military alliance AUKUS tests drones with artificial intelligence

Military alliance AUKUS tests drones with artificial intelligence

Tests of artificial intelligence (AI) integrated into unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were conducted for the first time by the trilateral military alliance AUKUS, the Hartpunkt information platform reported on August 12.

It should be noted that AUKUS intends to use drones to combat ground targets with the support of artificial intelligence. This area is being implemented as part of the multinational Convergence Capstone 4 project, in which more than 4,000 military and civilian employees from AUKUS members, as well as from Japan, New Zealand, Canada and France, are participating.

According to the head of the US Army Robotics Department, Robert Sadowski, the task of the multinational network is to integrate various systems into a powerful sensor-effector network.

Scientists conducting AI drone experiments are using autonomous exercises to test the RAAIT (Resilient Autonomous Artificial Intelligence Technologies) system in real time as part of a military exercise.

“The goal is to train the artificial intelligence to such an extent that the different performance parameters of the respective sensors and effectors of the alliance, despite the diversity, are not a disadvantage, but rather an advantage of the entire system.”the post says.

It is clarified that recognition, target tracking and decisions to combat relevant targets must be carried out automatically and optimized by artificial intelligence. This will optimize the decision-making process of the human operator.
