A museum of Buddhist culture and art is scheduled to open in Ulan-Ude, Svetlana Bardaleeva, curator of the collection of the National Museum of the Republic of Buryatia, said, RIA Novosti reported on August 13.
Bardaleeva presented the concept of the new museum at the round table “Buddhist Art: Traditions and Modernity”, which took place within the framework of the Second International Buddhist Forum.
“A new concept is the Museum of Buddhist Culture and Art. To complete the formation of the brand of Buryatia, the centre of Russian Buddhism, we believe that such a museum is simply necessary.”Bardaleeva said.
According to him, a museum of Buddhist culture is planned to be created in the region on the basis of the Khangalov Museum of the History of Buryatia. The curator of the collection noted that another building for the National Museum is currently being built and the new institution will occupy the premises of the Museum of the History of Buryatia.
Let us remind you that the second International Buddhist Forum is being held in honour of the 260th anniversary of the Institute of Pandito Hambo Lamas, heads of Buddhist communities in Russia, founded by Empress Catherine II. The event is attended by representatives of Buddhist communities from all over the world.
