PSP Pontigny Police Station Closed for More Than Six Months for Rehabilitation

The PSP police station in Pontinha, in the municipality of Odivelas, will be closed for at least six and a half months from Thursday to carry out restoration work on the building, although patrols in the area will continue, it was announced on Tuesday.

A statement from the Lisbon Metropolitan Command, through the Loures Police Department (which coordinates the PSP’s actions in the municipality of Odivelas, Lisbon district), said the project is scheduled to begin on September 2 (almost three weeks after the closure of the facilities), “with a completion date of 180 days.”

“Motorized and pedestrian mobile patrols will continue using the various capabilities available at the Loures Police Headquarters, reinforced by the Mobile Service Unit, which will increase police visibility and allow for continuous response to requests and missions in the area,” the security forces emphasized.

During this period, administrative services will be transferred to the 75th Police Station in Caneza (also in the municipality of Odivelas).

The PSP recalled that nearby – “about five minutes’ walk away” – the 36th and 65th police stations remain open, in Bairro Padre Cruz (already in the municipality of Lisbon) and in Brandoa (Amadora) respectively.

This month, the Odivelas City Council approved the launch of a competition for the construction of the PSP municipal unit, a €9.7 million project due for completion in early 2027.

In April 2023, the previous government approved in the Council of Ministers the conclusion of a cooperation agreement with local authorities for the construction of the division’s facilities, and now the launch of the competition has been sanctioned.

The municipality will invest around four million euros in the construction of the equipment, and the government will be responsible for providing the remaining funds.

The Odivelas City Council also provided the land and covered the costs of the project, which is estimated to cost 250 thousand euros.

The future facility, which will be located in the Ribeirada area, will also house officers from the 71st Police Station (Odivelas) and the Pontinha Police Station, as well as the specialized police stations for traffic, criminal investigation and police intervention and inspection (currently based in the Lores unit).
