Under a strategy unveiled by the government this Friday in Lisbon, artificial intelligence will now be used to help citizens access justice, verify the authenticity of documents, and anonymously disclose court decisions.
An official source from the Ministry of Justice told Lusa that “Portugal will be the first country in the world to use the same technology that underpins ChatGPT” (language model adjusted software) using “machine learning”. in which a computer system improves knowledge to inform people about various court services and records available through the Internet.
The new strategy, which relies on partnerships with universities and technology start-up companies, will also apply to the realm of document authentication required for citizenship procedures, in which artificial intelligence is expected to speed up the dematerialization of requests. .
The anonymization of court decisions, allowing their public disclosure without compromising personal data, is also part of this project. According to the same source, technology will automate this process, eliminating the need to assign judicial personnel to perform this task, which until now has been done manually.
The presentation of the “GovTech Justice Strategy” is scheduled for 11:00 am at the Lisbon Justice Campus at an event attended by Minister of Justice Catarina Sarmento and Castro and Secretaries of State Jorge Alves Costa and Pedro. Ferrao Tavares.
