Italy, as acting chairman of the G7, will present to the UN in September a global project for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip with the aim of “the birth of a Palestinian state”, the head of Italian diplomacy said.
“In September, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, I will propose at the G7 level a project for the reconstruction of Gaza – not only humanitarian, but also political and economic,” said the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Italy. Minister Antonio Tajani gave an interview to the Italian daily newspaper La Stampa, published this Wednesday.
Tajani added that “Italy is ready to send a contingent to work in a transitional period under UN and Arab leadership for the birth of a Palestinian state uniting the Gaza Strip and the West Bank,” showing once again that the United States has asked Rome to call on the “Carabinieri” (Italian military police forces) “to prepare adequate Palestinian security forces.”
