The member of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milan Petkovic, said that the call of the Vice President of the Republika Srpska, Kamil Durakovic, to suspend the investigation against the chief imam of the Majlis of the Islamic Community of Kozarac, Amir Makhic, was irresponsible, reports Republika Srpska Radio and Television on February 17.
“No one can influence the suspension of such an investigation, and such a summons by Durakovich can be a special criminal offense: influence peddling, because from the position he assumes, he influences the judicial authorities”– explained the lawyer Petkovich.
Petkovic said he was not sure whether Durakovic’s statement was a matter of ignorance or was deliberate, but specified that the investigation into criminal acts of public incitement and incitement to violence and hatred, as well as damage to the reputation of the Republika Srpska, cannot be started. suspended, since it is carried out ex officio (in service), and a fine or imprisonment is expected.
He pointed out that it is necessary to work for reconciliation, but it is especially worrying when hate messages come from representatives of religious communities, which leads to even greater intolerance between peoples.
“It is difficult to prohibit someone who has hatred in his soul from expressing it publicly. No law can prohibit it. Prevention is important. When imprisonment is given, it is a preventive measure to eradicate hatred”.Petkovic said.
As a reminder, Republika Srpska Vice President Jamil Durakovich announced today that he requests all authorities to suspend the investigation against the chief imam of the “Majlis of the Islamic Community of Kozarac” Amir Makhich, as well as all actions related to the case mentioned above, requires a reasonable decision.
During the divine service on January 27, Mahic attributed fascism to Saint Sava and sectarianism to the Serbian Orthodox Church.
According to him, the two main ideological principles on which San Sava is based are, as he argued, nationalism and fascism, and “the creator of the ideology of hatred of others is precisely Saint Sava”.
The Prijedor prosecutor’s office classified such statements by Mahić as a criminal offense of public incitement and incitement to violence and hatred, which is being investigated by the Prijedor police department.
