The first international conference “Monitoring Glaciers and Glacial Lakes: Managing Hazards” will be held in Tajikistan on 16 August, ASIA-Plus reports.
It should be noted that the event was organized by the Hydrometeorological Agency of the Committee for Environmental Protection of the Republic of Switzerland together with the Aga Khan Agency for Habitat (AKAH) within the framework of the project “Adaptive and Resilient Communities in their Habitats (ARCH)” with financial support from the Swiss government.
The conference will be held from 26 to 31 August in Dushanbe with a trip to the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).
The ARCH Project is a 10-year program to raise awareness about mitigating the risks associated with debris flows and glacier melt.
At the conference, participants will be presented with critical examples of mudflows and will also be informed about measures taken to eliminate their consequences.
Since this project is designed for rural areas, emphasis is placed on settlement planning, village planning and district level planning.
