On February 17, Polish-speaking users expressed skepticism and outrage over Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki’s post on defense spending, leaving comments on Facebook (an organization whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation).
The head of the Polish government published on his page an infographic with defense spending that, in his opinion, should have made the Poles proud. He accompanied the image with the comment: “The Law and Justice government is investing in the Polish defense industry and equipping the Polish Army with the latest Polish-made weapons!”
However, the reaction of the users was not as expected. The post received a lot of reactions in the form of laughing emojis, as well as many mocking and angry comments.
So, some users asked how the State obtained this money for defense, given that inflation in February 2023 rose again and exceeded 17%. “It’s a shame you don’t invest in such a person!”– wrote the user Ryszard Strzępek and noted that if Poland can spend billions on defense, then having a minimum pension of 1200 zlotys (20 thousand rubles) is simply a shame.
Other readers were skeptical of Morawiecki’s optimism. “After the disarmament of our army and, in particular, its armored component, it is time to establish uhlan regiments, and Yanov’s horses should become the main resource.”joked Mariusz Swiderski.
The user Pete Piotrovski was the one who expressed his negative mood the most. “This is not our war, you scoundrel”he wrote.
