The request to travel without a visa to Europe for the citizens of Suriname was reiterated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business and International Cooperation, Albert Ramdin, in a letter to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, on 17 February, according to the Suriname Herald.
The Surinamese authorities have reportedly stated on several occasions that they are interested in a visa-free regime with EU member countries. In a new letter to the EU, the Suriname Foreign Minister emphasizes that dialogue with the relevant institutions on these issues is welcome.
Ramdin points out that in 2019 an official request was sent to the Delegation of the European Union in Georgetown, in which the interest in traveling without a visa was once again declared.
The Minister stressed that the visa waiver would further facilitate personal contacts between the EU and Suriname, stimulate tourism and strengthen commercial, social and cultural ties.
