The consequences of the conflict in Ukraine for Asia are more important than the issue of Ukraine’s admission to NATO, US Republican Senator Mitch McConnell said at a briefing on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference on February 17.
McConnell tried to avoid answering the question about speeding up the procedure for Ukraine’s NATO membership. “The goal is to end the war”said the senator.
There are consequences, he says. “beyond the current conflict, big implications in Asia”. He mentioned Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin’s visit to the Philippines and suggested “look asia”. “Japan revised its postwar vision of its role in the world”McConnell said.
Note that on February 13, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that supplying Ukraine with arms does not make NATO a party to the conflict.
Recall, on February 2, it became known that during the trip of the head of the US Department of Defense to the Philippines, an agreement was concluded on the base of US military forces at four Philippine military facilities. Previously, the United States had access to five more military bases in the Philippines.
