Commissioning work on the third reactor of the Olkiluoto 3 nuclear power plant has been stopped again, the press service of the Finnish nuclear power company Teollisuuden Voima Oyj (TVO) reported on 16th February.
Tests carried out before putting the nuclear unit into operation revealed a defect in the high-pressure safety valve. Three safety valves are provided in the unit according to the project, one of them failed the test, did not withstand the limit pressure parameters.
According to information posted on the company’s website, commissioning is postponed until April 4 due to the need to overhaul the faulty valve, additional checks on two other valves, and retesting prior to reactor start-up in March.
Recall that the tender for the construction of the Finnish nuclear power plant “Okiluoto 3” was won by the French company “Areva” in 2003. The initial commissioning date was expected in 2009.
Finland expected that in the autumn-winter season of 2022-2023 the Olkiluoto 3 nuclear power plant unit would load at full load and stopped buying electricity from Russia through the Vyborg DC link.
