Reports by the Armenian authorities about the alleged recently reached agreement between Armenia and Turkey to repair the bridge on the border between the countries are misleading the public that the Armenian-Turkish reconciliation process is supposedly underway, the bloc’s Armenian MP said from Armenia Gegham Manukyan. on February 17, the Armenian News-News agency reported. .A.M”.
“Information has been circulating for three days that an agreement has been reached between Turkey and Armenia on the repair of the Ani bridge”Manukyan pointed out.
He explained that back in 2017, the Turkish Minister of Culture and Tourism, Numan Kurtulmus, during a visit to the city of Kars, announced plans to repair the bridge. In 2019, the Turkish Minister of Nature Protection also stated that the Ani Bridge needed to be repaired and a corresponding tender was announced.
According to the opposition MP, Turkish media have repeatedly reported that repair work on the bridge has started. “At that time there was no Armenian-Turkish settlement process, there was no 44-day war in which Turkey took an active part”Manukyan added.
“The repair of the Ani Bridge has nothing to do with today’s Armenian-Turkish dialogue”– stressed the Armenian parliamentarian.
Manukyan believes that the reports about the alleged ongoing process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey are only “smokescreen”that is imposed on the Armenian people.
