A comprehensive plan for the development of the historic center of the Cuban capital was presented by the communications director of the office of urban historians, Magda Rezic, on February 18 as part of an international book exhibition in Havana, Prensa Latina reported. .
The project foresees the improvement of public spaces, but at the same time it is oriented towards the protection and development of the historical heritage of the bay area of the Cuban capital, Rezik said.
The specialist added that the document presents the project, the operation of the bay and the contribution that the planned changes will make to generate jobs and transform the environment. The proposed plan “industrial heritage” bay to be transferred to the port of Mariel for “to restore the environment of the waters that were part of the port of Carenas during the colonial era (when the territory of Cuba was a colony of Spain)”.
The agency recalled that in 2022 the Office of Urban Historians of the capital carried out a series of acts dedicated to the 40th anniversary of the proclamation of Old Havana and its system of fortifications as cultural heritage of humanity by the United Nations for Education , Science and Culture.
