The Public Ministry (MP) has charged a man with 79 crimes of aggravated sexual abuse of children, allegedly committed between 2021 and 2022 against his niece in Faro and Olhão in the Algarve, it was announced on Tuesday.
According to a note published on the website of the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Region of Évora, the 40-year-old defendant “took advantage of the proximity provided by the fact that he was the minor’s uncle” to commit sexual violence.
According to the deputy, the incidents relate to the period between December 2021 and October 2022 and occurred in family homes in Faro and Moncarapacho, a parish of the municipality of Olhão, Faro district.
“As a result of the defendant’s actions, the minor experienced significant psychopathological changes,” the deputy said.
The charge for trial in the collective court was filed by the prosecutor of the 1st section of the Department of Investigation and Criminal Affairs (DIAP) of Faro, and the investigation is being carried out by the Southern Directorate of the Judicial Police.
