The 43-year-old man who killed José Coelho, a former philosophy teacher, on Rua de Serpa Pinto in Évora was in pre-trial detention on Tuesday.
A source in the Judicial Police (PJ) told Lusa that this Tuesday the man attended his first judicial examination in the court of Évora, which ordered the most serious measure of coercion against him, since he was taken to the prison of Elvas, where he will await the development of the process.
The origin of the crime was a dispute over the recovery of unpaid rent, as the suspect was the former teacher’s tenant.
The victim was 69 years old and his body was found on August 2 by a woman in a state of advanced decomposition. wrapped in rags and blankets.
Thanks to the actions taken by the local criminal investigation department of Evora, it was nevertheless possible to “recover some of the victim’s belongings, as well as his ATM card.”
The 43-year-old man was still in possession of a firearm at the time of his arrest.
According to a PJ source, the suspect has no criminal record.
