A priest suspected of pedophilia is accused of forcing a teenager to have an abortion and bury the fetus in his backyard in Coari, Amazonas state, Brazil. The suspect, arrested Sunday, is accused of abusing at least four teenagers.
According to G1Father Paulo Araújo da Silva, 31, is suspected of abusing four young men and filming sexual acts. Police seized a 4 919,39 euros and more than 260 videos of sexual content.
According to information provided by police, one of the victims became pregnant and the suspect forced her to have an abortion and bury the fetus in the backyard of a friend’s house.
Authorities launched an investigation last year after a 17-year-old girl filed a complaint about her relationship with the detainee.
According to delegate Jose Barras, the victim admitted that she had had sexual relations with the priest since she was 14. In the complaint, the teenager also said that she was forced to have an abortion.
The fetus was buried in the backyard of a friend of the priest, information “confirmed by both photographs and the testimony of the victim.” Authorities are also looking for the partner of “the priest who provided the drug that caused the abortion,” the delegate explained.
When he was arrested, the priest was caught in bed with a young woman who had just turned 18. Police said the suspect asked victims to bring friends to meetings so they could engage in sexual activity together.
Civil police continue to investigate into suspected further abuses.
The Diocese of Coari has already commented on the abuses and announced that the priest had been suspended from his post. all the functions he performed in the Catholic Church.
