Four firefighters were slightly injured in a fire that broke out Tuesday evening in the bush of the Aire mountain range in the municipality of Torres Novas. One of the firefighters suffered a sprained right leg after falling from a wall on Wednesday morning.
Two firefighters have already suffered minor injuries and another was treated at the scene on Tuesday evening.
The fire entered the extinguishing stage at 10 a.m. this Wednesday, a source from the Medio Tejo subregional command told Lusa.
The fight against the fire, which broke out at 9.30pm on Tuesday in a hard-to-reach area, was reinforced by two aircraft on Wednesday morning, which allowed the situation to be quickly resolved, the source said.
At 10:30, 138 fighters were extinguishing the fire in the Santarem area, supported by 42 ground vehicles.
