Former US leader Bill Clinton asked Americans on Thursday to elect Kamala Harris, calling her the “president of joy” the country needs at a time of division, “meaningless rhetoric” and a threat to democracy.
“Kamala Harris is the only candidate who has the vision, the experience, the temperament, the will and, yes, the joy to get things done,” the former president said on the third night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. “I want a happier America,” he said.
The easy smile and raspy laugh that characterize Kamala Harris have drawn criticism from opponent Donald Trump. Several Democratic spokesmen called the candidate’s joy a positive.
