The Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation (MECI) has warned of a teacher shortage, as reported by the publication on Wednesday. CMSchool principals remained alarmed.
“We expect a start to the school year with very heavy clouds, with thousands of students left without teachers, especially in Lisbon, Vale do Tejo and the Algarve,” responded Filinto Lima of the National Association of Group Directors and Public Schools.
“We know that the government has introduced 15 measures to combat this restriction and that the number of schedules to be filled will still fall, but we do not know to what level, because it will depend on the extent to which teachers comply with the requirements of the measure,” added the director, who believes that the introduction of support for displaced teachers is important: “If the government’s measures included support for travel and stay, the problem would be less, because many teachers from the North do not want to go to the South because they do not have this support,” he stressed. According to MECI, which places responsibility on the previous government, 1,423 full schedules and 1,480 partial schedules still need to be completed.
