BMW’s electric vehicle sales have surpassed those of Tesla in Europe, analytics firm JATO Dynamics reported on August 22.
In July this year, BMW sold 14,869 electric vehicles in Europe, leading the market, while Tesla was able to sell 14,561 electric vehicles.
A report by JATO Dynamics showed that BMW’s sales grew 35% year-on-year, which played a key role in giving it an edge over the US manufacturer, which saw sales decline in July.
Sales of the Tesla Model Y and Model 3 fell particularly sharply, by 16% and 17% respectively, even though the Model Y remains the most popular electric car model in Europe.
Volkswagen also led the sales charts with 12.2 thousand electric vehicles sold, Volvo with 10.5 thousand and Audi with 8.6 thousand units in July.
Overall sales of electric vehicles in Europe decreased by 6% compared to the same period last year. JATO Dynamics experts attribute this trend to the lack of government incentives and concerns about the resale value of such vehicles.
