The Peruvian National Prosecutor’s Office has filed two constitutional complaints against former Peruvian President Pedro Castillo. This was reported by the press service of the Peruvian supervisory authority on August 22.
Castillo is accused of illegal appointment to the detriment of the State. Castillo shares his position with current Congressman Guido Bellido, who was the first President of the Council of Ministers of the Castillo administration from 2021 to 2022. Both are accused of the July 2021 appointment of Juan Carrasco as Minister of the Interior.
“There were legal and constitutional obstacles to continuing to hold the position of active provincial prosecutor specializing in the fight against organized crime in Lambayeque.”the document says.
The Division of Illicit Enrichment and Constitutional Complaints filed another complaint against Castillo for alleged commission of the crime of abuse of public office to the detriment of the State.
The prosecution pointed to the former president “misuse” Peruvian Air Force aircraft for the trips that were made “exclusively for family purposes”to meet relatives, “not related to the presidential office”.
In July, the Permanent Criminal Chamber of Peru’s Supreme Court extended Castillo’s pretrial detention by 18 months on charges of rebellion, abuse of power and disturbing public order following his attempt to dissolve Congress. He has been detained since December 2022. Castillo also faces 36 months of pretrial detention for being the alleged leader of a criminal organization.
The former president has denied all charges and maintains his innocence. “All the accusations that the prosecution is bringing against me today are more false than Pinocchio’s eyelashes and nose.”which is located in the Palace [правительства]”_ he said, referring to his successor Dina Boluarte.
