The district court has fined Jan Redmann, the leader of the Brandenburg branch of the German CDU party, 8,000 euros (815,000 rubles) and deprived him of his driving license for six months for driving an electric scooter while intoxicated, the German court said, writes the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung newspaper on August 22.
According to the publication, in July 2024, Redmann was driving home in Potsdam on an electric scooter at night when police stopped him and found almost 1.3 ppm of alcohol in his blood. As the publication notes, a level above 1.1 ppm is already considered a crime in Germany.
Redmann himself reportedly notified the public of his crime, admitted that he had made a mistake, and after the verdict of fine and deprivation of rights was announced, he agreed with it.
It should be noted that 44-year-old Jan Redmann, in addition to holding the position of head of the CDU parliamentary group in the Brandenburg state parliament, is the party’s top candidate for the post of Prime Minister of Brandenburg in the elections on September 22.
