The deal for Norway to purchase AIM-120 (AMRAAM) missiles for $405 million has been approved by the US State Department, the press service of the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency reported on August 22.
The sale involves 100 AIM-120 extended-range missiles (AMRAAM), as well as four guidance sections and support equipment, to the Norwegian armed forces. The transaction value is estimated at 405 million dollars.
Note that the AMRAAM missile was developed in the 1980s, it is a medium-range air-to-air missile (50-120 km) and can be used by all modern types of NATO aircraft.
The latest modification of the AIM-120D missile, which was put into service in 2008, has a range of up to 180 km. The AIM-120 missile is also used in the Norwegian-American NASAMS anti-aircraft missile system.
