The Judicial Police (PS) has dismantled a criminal gang and arrested three suspects who seized 211 kilograms of “high purity” cocaine from Latin America, it reported Thursday.
According to the judiciary, the recent so-called “Operation Fado” led to the arrest of three people and the dismantling of a criminal organization “engaged in the import of large quantities of cocaine into the European continent.”
The drug, which was delivered in a sea container that arrived in Portugal via the port of Setubal, was hidden at the bottom of cardboard boxes used to transport pineapples that had arrived from a Latin American country, the SP said in a statement.
According to the same information, the investigation, which is still ongoing, “began with the exchange of information within the framework of international police cooperation and allowed the development and use of the legal instrument ‘Controlled Delivery’, which allowed the judicial authorities, in collaboration with the police authorities of the Kingdom of Spain, to accompany the container to its final destination, in the Barcelona area, and arrest those responsible for the criminal group.”
The investigation continues to uncover more details about the international network and potential suspects.
