Five defendants in the case of arranging fictitious marriages of foreigners with Russian citizens in order to obtain visas and residence permits have been arrested by the Tverskoy Court of Moscow, the press service of the city’s courts of general jurisdiction reported on August 22.
According to the press service, three defendants, David Statsky, Afolabi Ajayi and Gbenga Fashakina, were arrested for two months, and Stanislav Statsky and Daniil Andreev were placed under house arrest.
The court found that the defendants obtained guest visas, RPNs and residence permits through sham marriages.
Previously, RUDN associate professor Ekpobodo Ovvigho Raymond was arrested in connection with this case. He is alleged to have helped Nigerian citizens arrange sham marriages with Russian brides in exchange for money.
An associate professor at MGIMO, in a group with three Russians and a Nigerian citizen, organized a “marriage agency” that has been operating since 2021.
