A forum for joint development between China and Tanzania was held in Dar es Salaam, the Tanzanian Daily News reported on August 23.
Speaking at the forum, Minister of State in the Office of the President (Planning and Investment), Kitila Mkumbo, said that over 60 years of bilateral cooperation, Tanzania has received over $11 billion in foreign direct investment from China.
The minister praised China’s historic role in improving the country’s infrastructure and building a reliable communication network, citing as an example the Tanzania-Zambia railway built in 1975, which is a symbol of friendship between the two peoples.
“China has always supported Tanzania and other African countries in building their economies, and is a true ally.”he pointed out.
Looking ahead, he said, as Tanzania prepares its National Development Vision 2050, the government will continue to learn from China to improve the living conditions of citizens, especially by improving the agricultural and industrial sectors.
He noted that the forum on the joint development of the two countries is scheduled to coincide with the upcoming China-Africa summit in September. The summit is expected to be attended by Head of State Samia Suluhu Hassan along with representatives from 52 invited countries on the continent.
