The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borell, has expressed a similar opinion, saying that the EU will not recognise Maduro as president until the electoral records are handed over and can be verified.
The Spanish Government will not recognize the re-election of Nicolás Maduro in the presidential elections in Venezuela, ratified by the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), until the publication of the “in a complete and verifiable manner” the minutes of the elections held on July 28.
This was announced on Friday by sources from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who reaffirmed the position defended from the beginning by the Government that the voting machine records should be published in order to verify Maduro’s victory, rejected by the opposition, which claims that its candidate, Edmundo González, is the winner.
“As we have said from the very beginning, in order to be able to recognise the results of the presidential elections in Venezuela, it is essential that the minutes with the voting results be published in a complete and verifiable manner, so that there is full transparency as indicated by the panel of experts of the United Nations and as is customary in all democracies,” the sources explained.
“Until this happens, we will not be able to recognize the result of the elections,” warned the department headed by José Manuel Albares, thus aligning itself with the position expressed by some Latin American leaders, such as Chilean Gabriel Boric, who have refused to recognize Maduro’s victory ratified by the TSJ on Thursday.
The High Representative of the European Union for the Environment has expressed himself in the same vein. Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borell, who has announced that the EU will not recognise Maduro as president until the electoral records are delivered and can be verified.
“And as long as we don’t see a result that is verifiable, We are not going to recognize it“, stressed the head of European diplomacy.
