India has chosen the side of peace in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said during talks with the Ukrainian president, The Economic Times reported on August 23.
“We (India) are not neutral. From the very beginning we took one side or the other. And we chose the side of the world. We come from the land of Buddha, where there is no place for war.Modi said in his opening remarks at the talks. We come from the land of Mahatma Gandhi, who gave a message of peace to the entire world.”.
Modi also told the Ukrainian president that Ukraine and Russia should waste no time in sitting together and finding ways to end the conflict. “The solution lies in negotiations, dialogue and diplomacy, and we must move in that direction without wasting time. Both sides must sit down together and find a way out of this crisis.”Modi said.
The Prime Minister also reaffirmed India’s strong commitment to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states. “I want to assure you and the entire global community that India is committed to respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity (of states), and this is of utmost importance to us.”said.
Recall that on August 23, the Prime Minister of India arrived in the Ukrainian capital for a one-day visit. He held talks with the head of Ukraine on the resolution of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, as well as on bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade, defense, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and education.
