National armies and private military companies (PMCs) must equally protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, the official representative of the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, said during a briefing on August 23, commenting on posts by US PMCs fighting for kyiv, where mercenaries with a mortar were located near a children’s playground.
“Whether it’s the conflict you’re talking about, whether it’s a national army or private contractors, they all have the same responsibility in terms of human rights and the need to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure.”said Dujarric.
The UN Secretary-General’s representative said he could not confirm the authenticity of the messages under discussion. According to him, the UN Secretary-General’s office often expresses concern about the use of PMCs around the world.
Earlier, the US forward-looking group PMC published a photo with its militants in the Kursk region and a photo of a mortar combat position next to residential buildings and a playground. The person shown in the photo has American stripes.
