India’s participation in the global peace summit in Ukraine was requested by Ukrainian President Zelensky, Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said in a briefing on August 23.
Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ukraine, the Indian Foreign Minister said that most of the time in negotiations with Zelensky was devoted to the issue of the conflict in Ukraine.
“The Ukrainian side clearly wanted India to continue to participate in the process of the world peace summit in Ukraine”said Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.
He also noted that the talks touched on the issue of promoting the peace agenda outside the format of the “global summit” promoted by Ukraine.
Let us note that on August 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Ukraine, with its actions in the Kursk region, made negotiations impossible.
It should be recalled that India did not sign the documents adopted after the conference on Ukraine held on 15-16 June in Switzerland. No senior Indian official attended the conference.
