Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi explained in detail his comments on resuming the 2015 nuclear deal, better known as JCPOA, Mehr news agency reported on August 24.
Iran’s foreign affairs chief said he did not say the JCPOA could not be revived. “I said that the JCPOA cannot be revived in its current form”he explained.
“The JCPOA cannot be revived in its current form, but there will certainly be other forms of agreement that we will fight for.”“Araghchi quoted what was said earlier.
Recall that the JCPOA was concluded in 2015. According to it, Iran limited its nuclear program and a number of sanctions were lifted.
In May 2018, then-current US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the treaty and reimposed sanctions against Iran.
US President Joe Biden, who replaced Trump, tried to renew the agreement. However, negotiations failed.
