The information previously spread in some media about the possibility of strong earthquakes in the Kuban, the North Caucasus and Crimea was labeled as false. This was announced on August 24 on the Telegram channel “War on Fake” close to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
It is known that information about earthquakes in southern Russia began to appear on local public pages on August 17. The words of “anonymous seismologists” were cited as false authenticity, and in some Telegram channels there was a reference to the “earthquaketrack.ru” service, which provides a map of earthquakes.
Information on replicas (replica – approx. IA Krasnaya Vesna) did indeed take place. However, it concerned only the situation in the Far East, near the eastern coast of Kamchatka, where an earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred on August 21.
Seismologists working in the Krasnodar region do not predict earthquakes. The head of the Sochi seismic station, Elena Karpovich, said that she could not say exactly what earthquakes would occur in the region.
