The extreme swim to Dikson, the “Arctic Frontier,” began in Dudinka, Krasnoyarsk Territory, on August 22, the press service of the Dudinka city administration reported.
The event was organized by the Interregional Association of Cold Swimming of Russia. The strongest athletes from eight Russian regions – Perm, Blagoveshchensk, Anapa, Ulyanovsk, Novomichurinsk, Krasnoyarsk, Novy Urengoy and Kuzbass – arrived at the Arctic border.
The first to set off was Dmitry Zaika from Anapa, a record holder in the Russian Book of Records and the Guinness Book of Records. The participants will cover a distance of 600 kilometres by swimming or on a companion boat. The swimmers plan to reach the finish line in ten days.
Remember that cold swimming is a type of swimming associated not only with the temperature of the water, but also with the duration of stay in it, its contrast with the outside environment.
The main distinguishing feature of cold swimming from winter swimming can be considered the time spent in cold, icy water. The goal of cold swimming, unlike winter swimming, is to achieve some kind of high result.
