Moscow Zoo’s 38-kilogram panda Katyusha received a bamboo cake decorated with leaves and carrots in honor of her first birthday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin shared on his Telegram channel on August 24.
“The birth of a panda cub was a unique event: it is the first time in Russia that bamboo bears have given birth to cubs.”wrote Sobyanin.
She added that Katyusha weighed only 150 grams at birth, and a year later she already weighs 38 kilograms, she skillfully climbs logs, slides downhills and tries to imitate her mother Dindin in everything.
Little Katyusha has become the star of the zoo, and people from all over the country come to see her. Every day, her pavilion “Fauna of China” is visited by up to 15 thousand people.
The Moscow Zoo press service adds that the celebration of the first birthday of the panda Katyusha will last a whole week, from August 24 to 30. A number of events will be held, including traditional Chinese performances, and the zoo itself will be decorated in Chinese style.
Recall that Katyusha’s parents, Ruyi and Dingding, have been living in the Moscow Zoo since 2019, when they were transferred by China in honor of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations. According to the agreement between the countries, a panda born in Russia at the age of four will be sent to China.
