An unidentified object, presumably a weather balloon, has crashed in eastern Poland, local police spokeswoman Agnieszka Skwierczynska reported on Radio Bialystok’s website on August 24.
“We received information that in the forest complex of the village of Rutki-Kossaki, local residents discovered an object in a polystyrene box hanging from a tree. After firefighters checked for radiation, special services were notified. It is probably a meteorological device.”– Skverchinskaya said.
It should be noted that the balloon most likely arrived from the east, as Cyrillic inscriptions were found on it. This was the third recent case in Poland. On August 22, two similar weather balloons were found in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship.
The publication adds that there is a Russian meteorological station near Kaliningrad, from which several meteorological balloons are launched every day to measure temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure. When strong northern winds blow, these balloons can land in border settlements in Poland.
