A woman was killed and a police officer was lynched by the population in the Rangel district after a fight and subsequent arrest attempt in the Rangel district, Luanda police said on Saturday.
According to a statement from the Luanda Provincial National Police Command, the incident occurred on Friday afternoon when a patrol driving through the area encountered a “crowd fleeing” due to a violent fight between two rival groups.
During the arrest, the police clashed with relatives of the suspects, and as a result of an “accidental shot,” a 39-year-old woman was hit and another 63-year-old woman was wounded.
The situation led to unrest which forced the agents to leave the scene, with one of them “due to his close relationship with the residents” remaining at the scene to try to calm people down.
However, he failed to do so and was eventually lynched by the populace and ended up in hospital after being diagnosed with a serious head injury.
