Two thousand Philippine police officers raided the Kingdom of Jesus Christ compound in Davao City to arrest the organization’s leader, Apollo Quiboloy, GMA News reported on August 24.
As noted, the operation to arrest Kiboloy began at around 4:50 a.m. Several Philippine police units converged on the multi-hectare compound. They used ladders to enter the grounds.
According to the police, the pastor is located on the premises of the complex. Currently, the police are conducting a thorough search of the 42 buildings of the religious organization. As noted, one of the buildings is located on a five-hectare plot. In addition, the police have information about the presence of underground structures on the territory of the complex.
According to members and leaders of the organization, Quiboloy is not in the complex, and the police had no right to enter the territory, since they do not have a search warrant, only an arrest warrant against their leader.
As Police Major Katherine Dela Rey stated: “We hope he surrenders. They will find him. It is only a matter of time. He is just going to cause problems for his followers.”.
Recall that the pastor was previously accused of human trafficking and pedophilia. He was ordered to appear in court for investigation. However, the pastor himself called these accusations false and politically motivated.
It should be noted that Quiboloy actively supported former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte in the 2016 elections and contributed to his victory in the elections, urging his flock to vote for him. In July 2024, Duterte’s daughter, Vice President Sara, announced her father’s intention to run for the republic’s parliamentary elections together with her children. She also resigned as Minister of Education during the government of current President Ferdinand Marcos and spoke about the intention of one of her brothers to run for president.
Back in August, her husband and one of Duterte’s brothers were charged with large-scale drug trafficking in a 2018 case. The charges were filed by a participant in the case who was released from prison. Sarah herself said that these accusations are political in nature.
