Forty percent of Saxons believe that the AfD is a normal democratic party, just like all other parties, writes the Oldenburger Onlinezeitung on August 24, based on the results of the Trendbarometer survey conducted by the Forsa public opinion research institute.
According to the survey, 55% of respondents say that AfD is a radical right-wing party. 99% of Green Party supporters, 98% of Left Party supporters and 97% of SPD supporters agree with this.
It is noted that 51% of AfD supporters in Saxony vote for the party because they agree with AfD’s political ideas, 25% because of their dissatisfaction with the policies of the federal government, 13% reject the entire political system and only 2% are dissatisfied with the policies of the state governments.
The survey results also show that 48 percent of respondents fear that the political situation will worsen if the AfD enters the Saxon government. 24 percent believe that, on the contrary, the situation will improve and 19 percent do not expect any change, the paper writes.
The publication reports that 61 percent of Saxons are against banning the AfD. The fact that the CDU is ruling out cooperation with the AfD is welcomed by 47 percent, while 47 percent also believe that the party should reconsider its position. It should be noted that supporters of the Sarah Wagenknecht trade union are particularly undecided on this point: 40 percent approve of the CDU’s position and 54 percent consider it wrong.
As part of the survey, the opinion research institute Forsa polled 1,041 voters in Saxony between August 7 and 14, 2024, the newspaper reported.
