Turkey must maintain a strong and effective navy to protect peace and security both in its territorial waters and in remote regions, Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, Hürriyet Daily News reported on August 25.
According to him, Turkey intends to strengthen its fleet by putting all submarines into service by 2029. The Khyzyrreys and Muratreys submarines will enter service in 2025 and 2026, respectively.
In addition, Erdogan expressed hope that the 138-year-old dream of building a national submarine under the Milden (National Submarine) project would come true.
The Turkish President announced plans to deploy domestic aircraft on Türkiye’s national aircraft carriers. “Our national and local aircrafts such as Hurjet, Kizilelma, TB3 and ANKA3 will protect our rights and interests in foreign areas”said.
He also announced the construction of the TF-2000 air defense destroyer at the Istanbul shipyard, designed to strengthen the country’s naval air defense capabilities.
“We will ensure that our critical assets, such as TCG Anadolu and the national aircraft carrier, are protected from aerial threats.”Erdogan added.
