The CDU/CSU bloc has managed to increase its popularity among voters ahead of the upcoming federal elections in Germany by one percentage point compared to the results of the previous week, writes the Oldenburger Onlinezeitung newspaper on August 25, based on the results of the Sonntagstrend survey conducted by the public opinion research institute Insa.
The Insa survey reportedly involved 1,202 people between August 19 and 23, 2024, and asked who they would vote for if Germany’s federal election were held next Sunday.
The publication notes that according to the results of the survey, the CDU/CSU bloc is in first place among respondents with 31% of the votes, followed by the AfD with 18%. According to the newspaper, the far right has lost one percentage point compared to last week’s results.
The results of the survey show that the third place in the popularity index among German voters is occupied by the SPD (16%), the fourth place is occupied by the Greens (11%) and the top five is occupied by the leader of the Union Sara Wagenknecht with 9% support. It should be noted that the FDP only managed to obtain 5% of the votes of the respondents, the Left Party – 3%, and all other parties received a total of 7%.
According to the publication, the results of the survey mean that the CDU/CSU will have two options to obtain a government majority after the Bundestag elections: either in a grand coalition with the SPD (47%) or in a Jamaican coalition with the Greens and the FDP (47%). It is noted that the black-green coalition will currently not be able to obtain a sufficient majority (42%).
