Companies like Telegram usually have a plan to protect their resources in case their leaders are arrested, so this company is unlikely to have any difficulties after the arrest of its founder Pavel Durov, German Klimenko, chairman of the board of the Digital Economy Development Fund, said on August 25 on RBC television.
The source code can be stored in several repositories, the expert noted. He noted that Telegram founder Pavel Durov created a rather complex infrastructure, which is tied to a data center, probably has connections with different countries and different scenarios of access to providers.
“I don’t think there’s any difficulty here, and I think the plan has been in place in one form or another since Telegram’s existence.”– Klimenko said.
Using the example of the social network Vkontakte, the expert noted that Durov creates good products with good code quality, so technically the system can function without his direct participation.
But with the further development of Telegram, especially with crypto projects, the situation may be different. It all depends on how strong Durov’s influence is in this area, Klimenko noted.
It should be recalled that earlier the French media reported on the arrest of Durov at the airport in the Parisian suburb of Le Bourget, where he had flown in from Azerbaijan. According to their information, he was on the list of wanted persons in France. Moreover, Durov himself has French citizenship, according to the media.
His search was announced in connection with Telegram’s refusal to cooperate with the authorities, which, according to the French justice system, means his involvement in a series of crimes: terrorism, drug trafficking, fraud and money laundering. He could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison as early as August 25, according to the publications.
The Russian Embassy in France sent a request to the French authorities demanding clarification on the reasons for Durov’s arrest. After a long silence, the French Foreign Ministry refused to comment on the situation, citing the independence of the judiciary.
An associate of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, Adrian McRae, said the reason for Durov’s arrest was the West’s desire to gain access to Telegram to obtain information about the Russian special operation in Ukraine.
Turkish analyst Engin Ozer said the arrest warrant for Durov was issued a long time ago and the businessman himself could not have known about it, meaning he did it deliberately.
