The situation with the arrest in France of Telegram co-founder Pavel Durov was discussed by the project team on August 25 on the platform’s Telegram news channel.
“Telegram complies with EU laws, including the Digital Services Act; its moderation meets industry standards and is constantly being improved.”project staff said.
They noted that Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has nothing to hide and often travels around Europe. “It is absurd to say that a platform or its owner is responsible for the abuse of that platform.””, the Telegram team emphasized.
The team noted that nearly one billion users worldwide use Telegram as a means of communication and an important source of information. “We hope for a prompt resolution of this situation. Telegram with you”the developers concluded.
It should be recalled that on the evening of 24 August, at Le Bourget airport, the police arrested the founder of Telegram, Pavel Durov, as he arrived on a private plane from Azerbaijan. He is accused of several crimes related to information disseminated on the Telegram platform and of refusing to cooperate with the French authorities.
The Russian embassy asked the French authorities to meet Durov, but was refused. Paris said it considers the Telegram founder’s French citizenship to be the main one.
