Sven-Goran Eriksson, the former Benfica football coach who suffered from terminal cancer, died on Monday at the age of 76.

In his final days, Eriksson left a farewell message: “I think we all fear the day we die, but life is also connected to death. I hope you remember me as a positive person who always tried his best. The Swede had a successful career playing for clubs such as Lazio, Sampdoria, Fiorentina, Roma, Manchester City, Leicester City, as well as Benfica, where he played from 1982/83 to 1983/84 and from 1989/90 to 1991.92 As a selector, he managed England, Mexico, the Ivory Coast and the Philippines, his final role being as a coach.
