An environmental campaign to plant 500 trees was carried out in the Sierra Norte region of the state of Puebla by the Rossotrudnichestvo representation in Mexico, the press service of the organization reported on August 26.
According to the head of the Mexican representation of the department, Tatyana Bogdanova, in the municipality of Cuautempan, state of Puebla, together with the public association “Women Working for Our Land” and the Faculty of Agronomy and Forestry of the Autonomous University of Puebla, they managed to plant 500 seedlings in areas affected by illegal logging.
Tatyana Bogdanova noted that Rossotrudnichestvo is trying to support the population of the region in which it operates, but is not imposing such assistance.
It should be noted that illegal deforestation in Mexico has been going on for many years. In some cases, not only the police, but also the army are involved in the fight against illegal logging. The decline of Mexico’s forests due to illegal logging is exacerbated by annual forest fires.
