The Dutch Cabinet will definitely introduce legislation to limit the granting of asylum, as announced in the coalition agreement, Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof said, the NL Times reported on August 25.
“The Asylum in Crisis Act will be adopted. There should be no doubt about this.”said Chouf at his press conference following the meeting of the Council of Ministers.
He acknowledged that there were many concerns about the legal acceptability of such an intervention. It is therefore not yet clear when the draft law will be presented, the Dutch leader said.
Chouf said the cabinet will ensure that the law is legally sound and that the cabinet can properly approve it. However, according to Chouf, not even the question of legal validity will force the cabinet to take a different path.
It is noted that there has been a lot of noise around the law because this week the Minister responsible for Migration, Marjolein Faber, claimed that the Netherlands is going through an asylum crisis. But she later claimed that this was just her own view of what was happening in society.
