Five people were stabbed on the last day of the Afro-Caribbean carnival in London, in the Notting Hill area, the press service of the London Police reported on August 27.
According to police, in just two days of the festival, eight people were stabbed, there were also non-stabbing cuts and acid was used on one occasion.
Around 50 police officers were also injured during the carnival. Seven thousand police officers were in charge of security during the carnival.
On August 26 alone, 230 people were arrested at this event and 49 weapons were confiscated. Within two days, the number of detainees rose to 320. Police also seized 49 weapons.
We remind you that the Notting Hill Carnival has been held annually since 1966. It was created to unite the local multi-ethnic community and put an end to racial conflicts. The reason for the start of the first carnival was the murder of Antiguan lawyer Kelso Cochrane.
